My First Ever Blog Post
I suppose this has been a long time coming, in a round-a-bout way.
I’ve been told a few times “Aaron, you’re such a good writer!” Well, I’m not entirely sure of the accuracy of this assertion – what first comes to mind are the comments I received on marked assignments from my music history lecturer. In this brain of mine that seems eager to discount the compliments that come my way, my lecturer’s remarks were easy ammo to counter the positive comments on my writing. But maybe – maybe – there’s something worth following through.
Why Am I Doing This Anyway?
There’ve been a few things that have prompted this humble blog beginning.
- I actually enjoy writing;
- I’ve stumbled across a fantastic blog and podcast by Michael Hyatt that has started to convince me that my wife is right and I may actually have something of value to offer; and
- I’ve been encouraged, increasingly often by an increasing number of people, to record an album of original songs.
My year 2 teacher used to jokingly (I presume) complain that my stories were so long they gave him too much marking to do. If it turns out I was verbose then and still am now then I suppose this blog won’t go very far, or at least not in the same flavour that it began.
Why Follow Me?
I love reading. Not as much as my wife but I really do love reading. I don’t want to read any old rubbish though – I don’t have time and it’s not enjoyable or worthwhile. But even making time to read the excellent books that are on my ‘to read’ list is seriously difficult at the moment with two (awesome!) kids under 18 months (something about them needing attention all the time, awake or asleep…).
Whether for similar or different reasons, I’m sure you’re also not real keen to spend time reading what won’t reap some benefit. So what can you expect and hope to gain here?
Inspiration. Your views challenged. Useable ideas. At least I sincerely hope so.
One of the things I feel most passionately about is music – and particularly music that turns the heart and mind to God. I love making it, listening to it, reading about it, talking about it and helping others grow an appetite for all that stuff too. So, really, my hope is that through reading this blog, you’ll become increasingly moved to make, listen to, read about, and talk about music that turns the heart and mind to God.
And along the way there’s a good chance I’ll share little story-nuggets as I find God teaching me through my kids, my wife, my life – things I think might impact you as well.
Til Next Time
You can expect another ‘window into the mind of Aaron’ next week. The plan is to post something new each week: something practical, encouraging or inspiring. And there’s more exciting, useable downloadable things in the works to come too – but you’ll have to wait to hear more on that!
Well, enough from me – I’d love to hear from you too! What do you think of this blog (yeah I know, there’s not much to it yet), these ideas, etc? What would you like to hear about? Got any questions you’d like me to muse over? Just tap away a quick comment…
